Writing ESSAY on ' Rivers of nepal,' for student and others

A river is a flowing mass of water in motion from higher to lower altitude. Nepal, a small mountainous county is rich
in water resources. It is the second richest country of the world in water resources. Here are tranquil lakes, meandering river and unique springs. Among them the rivers have a vital role in Nepal.

Most of the rivers in Nepal originate from the high Himalayas. These rivers never get dry. They are perennial rivers. Some rivers
that originate from Mahabharat range and Chure hills get dry for some part of the year. They are non-perennial rivers. Gandaki,Koshi, Karnali, Mahakali etc are the major rivers of Nepal. Koshi is the largest, Kamali is the longest and Narayani is the deepest river of Nepal. Besides them, there are-other several fresh water streams and brooks in Nepal.

Undoubtedly the rivers play vital role in the development of a country. In this sense. They are very useful and advantageous natural resources. In Nepal, we have produced hydro electricity using the river water. Similarly, we use water to irrigate the land. Some fast flowing rivers in Nepal like Trishuli, Karnali, etc are popular for rafting. So, rivers in Nepal possess great potential for the development of tourism. They are thus
important for entertairunent and transportation. Furthermore, we use water for various purposes like cooking, bathing, drinking and washing. They are also used as the boundaries foradministrative regions. Although rivers in Nepal are advantageous and in fact, are the foundation of national developLnent, they do possess some bad aspects. Sometimes, especially in rainy season, they get overflowed and cause great destruction. They kill people, sweep away the field, destroy houses and cause landslides.

Now a days, the condition of rivers in Nepal is being bad. The rivers flowing through or nearby cities are getting polluted. Unplanned settlement, industrialization, and urbanization are the causes of such pollution. The sacred rivers Bagmati and Bishnumati seem no more rivers, rather they seem like drainage. Thus, the rivers must be prevented from getting polluted. To
preserve the rivers, we should manage good drainage system. We should not throw garbage and wastage haphazardly in the bank of rivers.

It is true that we have not made the proper utilization of rivers of our country. We should irrigate the barren land for
cultivation, generate more hydro electricity and develop rafting. If we preserve our rivers from getting polluted and use them properly and aptly, we can find our destiny and fortune in river.
